Christmas in Lalibela

Nestled in the mountains of northern Ethiopia is the town of Lalibela. It is home to 11 rockhewn churches carved sometime in the 12th century by, according to legend, angels. Not much else is known about Lalibela, even less is known about its pilgrims. Hundreds of thousands flock here - some walking up to 21 days - to witness the nightlong Christmas festivities, sleeping on the cold, rocky grounds that surround the church so as not to miss a single moment.
